Shell in Nigeria: Polluted communities ‘can sue in English courts’

Royal Dutch Shell didn’t dispute that air pollution had been triggered, however argued it couldn’t be held legally chargeable for its Nigerian subsidiary, and that the air pollution was the results of “crude oil theft, pipeline sabotage and illegal refining”. Shell is chargeable for about 50% of the delta’s oil manufacturing.
