In 1851, Joe Biden’s nice, nice, nice grandfather, Edward Blewitt, left the little Irish city of Ballina for the US. Once often known as the salmon fishing capital of Ireland, and for being the birthplace of Ireland’s first feminine president, Mary Robinson, the tight-knit group of Ballina now boast of their US presidential connection.
Celebrations broke out throughout the city when Biden’s presidential victory was declared – and for the youth, it meant that something was attainable, regardless of the place you come from. This was filmed earlier than Biden’s inauguration, when he was nonetheless President-elect.
