NEW DELHI: The gove rnment on Wednesday approved the lifting of ban on export of hydroxychloroquinethe anti-malarial drug popular for its prophylactic use against Covid-19.
“The department of pharmaceuticals has approved the lifting of ban on export of hydroxychloroquine API as well as formulations. Manufacturers except SEZ/EOU units have to supply 20% production in the domestic market. DGFT has been asked to issue formal notification in this regard,” chemicals and fertilisers minister Sadanand Gowda tweeted on Wednesday.
The government had banned export of the drug and its formulations in April after India approved its use as a prophylaxis in select categories for prevention against Covid-19. The pharma industry said lifting the export ban will ensure ease of doing business.
