(CNN) — Tons of trash have washed onto Bali’s well-known Kuta Beach, prompting locals to spend the primary day of the brand new 12 months staging a cleanup.
“Some 70% of the marine debris is plastic waste,” Colonel Made Mahaparta from the Udayana Regional Military Command instructed Antara.
The trash was reportedly loaded onto vehicles and transported to a landfill website.
Plastic trash and different marine particles washes onto Kuta Beach yearly through the monsoon season, stated Badung’s head of the Environment Office, Wayan Puja, Antara reported. The official blamed the issue on rubbish mismanagement.

Though Kuta Beach faces the difficulty yearly, not like previous years, far fewer vacationers are round to see it in the mean time. Like many fashionable locations, Bali has been hit onerous by the Covid-19 pandemic and stays closed to worldwide vacationers.
“The Covid-19 pandemic is the most devastating disaster for Bali tourism,” he stated. “It is much worse than the Bali bombings, both the first and the second, and worse than all the Mount Agung eruptions combined.”
